aFloat is an interactive installation at the MIT Chapel that will produce a pool of flickering lights on the marble platform. Together with the dazzles dangled on Bertoia's metal sculpture and the flicker of grace reflected on the water in the perimeter cavity, aFloat will enhance the Chapel as a place of worship for the diverse MIT community. The essence of ripples without liquid has inspired this work. A single touch releases an array of diminishing flickers – a local impact on the greater whole. . . a moment of chaos between points of light before serenity returns with a calm ripple.

Funded in part by a grant from the Council for the Arts at MIT.
